Signage that never changes stops being read. Feeds and templates are how you keep screens current without someone editing them every week — with the corresponding risk that nobody is checking what they show.
Before you start
Have these ready.
- A working signage setup with at least one screen and playlist.
- 01
Add live feeds
Content sources including RSS and image providers can be added as feed-driven assets that update themselves. Use them for genuinely changing information — news, weather, notices — rather than for anything static.
- 02
Review what a feed can put on your wall
An automated feed publishes to a public screen without review. Choose sources you would be comfortable displaying unread, because that is what you are doing.
A general news feed in a school corridor can display distressing content without warning. Prefer narrow, controlled sources.
- 03
Use templates for consistency
Templates give a set of screens a common structure. Building on a template is faster than restyling each asset and produces a more coherent result.
- 04
Apply the organisation brand
Brand settings apply your organisation's identity across signage so screens read as one system. Set it once rather than per asset.
- 05
Check the screens physically
Automated content removes the person who used to notice something was wrong. Walk past your screens periodically and look at them.
Confirm it workedEvery screen is showing current, appropriate content — and is not showing an error, a blank frame or a stale feed.
Troubleshooting
When it does not go to plan.
| Symptom | Usual cause | Fix |
|---|---|---|
| A feed shows nothing. | The source is unreachable, or the network blocks it. | Check whether the source is reachable from the player's network. School content filters commonly block feed sources. |
| Feed content is inappropriate. | The source is broader than you assumed. | Remove it immediately and choose a narrower source. There is no editorial review in the pipeline. |
| Branding is inconsistent across screens. | Some assets were built before branding was set, or outside a template. | Rebuild the outliers from the template. |
Good to know
Small details that prevent big confusion.
- Automation removes effort and removes oversight in the same move. Compensate with periodic physical checks.
- Narrow feeds are safer than broad ones on public screens.
- None of this affects emergency takeover, which overrides everything.
